Melbourne launch begins the ten year party!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

The ‘Ten Years of Things that Didn’t Kill Us’ anniversary anthology launches are here!

It begins with the Melbourne launch in August (the 23rd) – ten years to the month since our first book, Paroxysm, was revealed to the world at a massive gig at the Madlove Bar. Then we have NSW – first Sydney and then the National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle – the festival where we first launched the label outside of our home town. It all wraps up with a huge party-gig in Adelaide on the 10th day of the 10th month, 10 years after it all began.

This anthology is without doubt the best thing Paroxysm has produced to date. The quality of the poetry and stories is off the charts. Simply put – we are all proud as hell of this one. It has a ton of established Paroxysm authors and a whole slew of new faces. It also marks a huge move into the United States – with three brilliantly strong U.S. authors and some amazing cover art from U.S. based artist Chad Divel. See the full line-up of authors at the bottom.

Melbourne: Saturday 23rd August, Collected Works Bookshop, Lv1 1 / 37, Swanston St, City – From 2pm: Paroxysm spoken word and story readings. (with after drinks at Hells Kitchen)

Sydney: Thursday 2nd October – details TBA.

Newcastle: As part of the NYWF ten year anniversary event – Saturday 4th October, 6:00pm-7:30pm, Festival Club, National Young Writers’ Festival.

Adelaide: Friday 10th October, Lizard Lounge. From 8pm – Paroxysm spoken word plus acoustic from Palky and Spindickle.

It’s been a hell of a road Paroxysm people – thanks from the bottom of our black and twisted hearts for your support over all these years. We hope to see you there.

Melbourne's turn to Croak . . .

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

After a brilliant Adelaide launch at Hard Boiled sore heads have been rested and its time for the boys hometown launch of their anthology of short stories:

Croak & GristShane Jesse Christmass and Hop Dac.
Saturday 1st March, 2pm
Collected Works Bookshop
1 / 37 Swanston St, Melbourne
(03) 9654 8873

Collected Works has been a big supporter of Paroxysm for years and it’ll be a great venue for a Saturday afternoon. This top-shelf book of short stories is already selling well in Melbourne even before it’s launched so this should be a good one.

I’ll be flying into Melbourne that day to introduce the readings from Hop and Shane but then leaving for Adelaide the same day as Sunday the 2nd marks the start of Adelaide Writers Week. Keep an eye out for Paroxysm products at the book selling tent at this six day event.

Croak & Grist hits Adelaide

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Finally its here – the Adelaide launch of the long awaited collection of short stories, Croak & Grist. With the books authors Shane Jesse Christmass and Hop Dac coming all the way from Melbourne for this reading it really is a must see. So Adelaide crew get down to the next Hard Boiled sessions to see and hear live these two top shelf Paroxysm writers. Both guys should be familiar to you, having previously appeared in both Waste and Shotgun.

(so be on time to catch the readings as the launch is up first)
Then stay on for the open mic where the best poet on the night gets the cash.

CROAK & GRIST:
Read with caution. Croak & Grist is a psychotic collection of work from two thoroughbreds of the Paroxysm Press stable. The stories are host to paranoia, schizophrenia, illusion, delusion, mysticism, love and redemption, themes that are excruciatingly extracted, and transmitted in such an unflinching manner that they may cause a contamination in the mind.

Stay tuned for details of the Melbourne launch.
