Since 1998, Paroxysm Press has prided itself on publishing works that other groups may not touch. One topic that virtually everyone can admit to … touching … is, of course, sex – and this is what the publishing label focussed on for their latest offering: a female-only anthology of poetry and short stories entitled Fingers & Tongues.
Launched at the 2002 National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle, and also at the SA Writers’ Centre earlier this year, Fingers & Tongues features 16 of the best female authors in the country. Read offerings by the cream of the female local writing scene – Kerryn Tredrea won last year’s SA Writers’ Centre Poetry Slam, and both Bel Schenk and Amelia Walker have launched their own single-author poetry anthologies; you can also check out some great women from interstate – New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria and the Northern Territory are all featured.
Is it perverse? Is it obscene? Is it smut? Is it art?
I’d say all of the above, but invite you to make up your own mind.
